Restoration-rehabilitation of Historical Monuments is being Implemented in Ateni Gorge

 Organized by the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and with the financial support of the ‘’ Cartu’’ Foundation, historical monuments are being restored in Ateni Gorge. The complete rehabilitation of the Church of the Mother of God in Tseroskhevi has already been completed. Damaged fragments of the east and north facades of the temple were covered with newly cut stones of Nichbisi as part of the restoration project. The neck of the dome and the cornices of the church were covered with the same stone.

Also, the rehabilitation of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Vere Valley has started. At the first stage, archeological works were carried out, after which the restoration of the temple is planned. The Church of Our Lady of Vere dates back to the 6th century and was rebuilt in the 11th century. The building is a three-nave basilica (10.7 X 7.5 m) inside and outside is covered with red and gray stone, Shirim stone is also used.

Shida Kartli State Representative Giorgi Khojevanishvili, Nikoloz Antidze,-Director of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation and Archbishop Andria,-Metropolitan of Gori and Ateni Diocese, visited the historical monuments of Ateni gorge. According to the believers, Gori municipality is rich in cultural and historical monuments, and their restoration and return to its original form is very important and joyful.
