169 Almond Trees Have been Planted at Kvernaki Mountain in Honor of the Memory of Perished Heroes

The children of the heroes who perished in the war in August 2008 participated in the planting action nearby Kvernaki mountain at the ‘’Holy Trinity’’ church in Gori.  11-17 years old children together with Levan Izoria,-Minister of Defense of Georgia, Giorgi Khojevanishvili,-the State Representative in Shida Kartli, Vladimer Chachibaia,- a General Major, Commander of the Defense Forces, symbolically planted 169 almond trees in honor of the memory of the fighters.

After planting the almond trees, the representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the heroes’ children went to the ‘’Holly Trinity’’ church. The teenagers paid a tribute to the fathers and  their companions –in-arms and lighted candles for them. By the initiative of the Minister of Defense, a memorial was located at the area and arrangement of a small square is being planned by the partnership of the regional government in the nearest future.

Military servicemen of the 1 st infantry brigade also participated in the planting action. The planting action was conducted by the initiative of the Ministry of Defense and supporting of the Gori Municipality City Hall.  Giorgi Mchedlidze,- a farmer from Zemo Nikozi, gave 169 almond saplings to the heroes’ family members free of charge for the planting action.
